Course Summary

REC 3 (remote and wilderness level 3) is the ideal course for those working and playing in the outdoors. This course content is designed with the needs of canoeing / sailing & other watersports / mountaineering / hillwalking / backwoods and forest schools as well as organisations such as scouting and guiding.

Approx 50% of the course is spent a minimum of outside working through scenarios in small groups.

REC 3 – Emergency Care Scheme

An 18 hour course. The Emergency Care outdoor first aid course (REC3) is designed to introduce a systematic method of applying Emergency Care to those that are found suddenly unwell or injured. The method of learning is practically based intermixed with scenarios of real situations.
The course includes:

Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident

A system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible

Assessing a casualty

The fundamental workings of the body, in particular the heart, lungs and airway

Awareness of delayed medical help and adverse environmental conditions

Content

First aid training with the Emergency Care scheme is easy and fun.
The course is progressive by building on each session, introducing new scenarios to test all techniques for:
Emergency:
vital signs • emergency action • airway • unconscious • choking • bleeding • breathing and circulation • cpr • AED (automated external defibrillator) practical training
Environment:
heat stress • cold stress • hot injuries • cold injuries
Illness:
chest pain • stroke • asthma • epilepsy • diabetes
Injury:
head • spine • chest • abdomen • pelvis • bones • soft tissue • eye
Rescue:
transportation • communication

To accommodate the ISA/RYA syllabus our Outdoor course includes understanding the differential for drowning, immersion and seasickness.
